Isle of Gigha Music Festival

Friday 30th and Saturday 1st July 2017

During the first summer after the community buyout in 2002 islanders organised the very first Music Festival as a celebration and from this small beginning today’s festival has evolved. The music festival takes place over the last weekend in June.

Our wee festival is the smallest and most intimate traditional music festival in Scotland, as the island Village Hall where we hold our headline events has a capacity of about 150.

We have the enviable and undisputed world record of 65 minutes for a non-stop Orcadian Strip the Willow at our ceilidh when some 50 persons danced throughout the set by Heuch! at our tenth anniversary festival.

We have also hosted the largest Scottish band - Treacherous Orchestra when there were eleven musicians on stage, as well as had some fantastic sets from Shooglenifty, Lau, Breabach and Blazin' Fiddles. Lorne MacDougall, our top local piper has appeared at almost every festival. We take huge pride in that some of Scotland's best vocalist have graced the festival: Karen Matheson, Karine Polwart, Fiona Hunter, Siobhan Miller, Kathleen MacInnes and Mary Ann Kennedy have all appeared.

We run a concert and ceilidh in the Village Hall on the Friday evening and host a double headlining concert on Saturday evening, and there is an informal "piper's picnic" session on the beach on Sunday afternoon, weather permitting.

There may be sessions in the Hotel and the Boathouse Restaurant have hosted a band on the Saturday afternoon in recent years.

Musicians of all abilities are welcome to our festival – do bring your instruments with you for any sessions that spring up.

Many of our festival-goers are regulars: we know them by name, and they're always welcome to have a blether while booking their tickets.

There is camping available to all as well as a range of accommodation available on the island. For details of camping and accomodation options click here.
